December Featured Boot Camp Client – Kanani

Congratulations Kanani!

We are proud to announce Kanani as our Featured Boot Camp Client!

I first met Kanani on a Monday when she came running by our boot camp eager to know when she could start – she started that Wednesday. This woman is a go-getter. She puts forth great effort at every workout. Whether she’s at boot camp or Zumba, she’s ready to be pushed to the next level. In fact, her signature moves at Zumba earned her the nickname – K-lo!

Kanani is a matchmaker at heart (see below). She’s always sharing ideas with me of ways to expand Bootique and connecting me with her influential network. I appreciate that she goes out of her way to be a part of the Bootique family and help us grow.

Kanani is also our ‘head beauty coach’ – which is an incredible asset for a company full of women! She knows more about make-up than I ever will… but fortunately she shares her expertise with me in small doses. Not only did she do the make-up for our trainers, Sarah and Sabrina, at their weddings this summer – she’s taught me bits about everything from self-tanner to eyelash enhancers – and I appreciate that! 🙂

What would you like people to know about you?

I grew up in San Diego (Solana Beach originally), and currently live in Bankers Hill. I’ve been married for 7 1/2 years to a fantastic and supportive husband, John, and love being a mom to my 4 1/2 year old daughter, Indiana.

Professionally, I’m a headhunter in the technology & software industry, and have been doing that for almost 15 years. Being a headhunter is like a matchmaker, but for people’s careers vs. personal lives. I love technology because it’s constantly changing, and helping people find more fulfilling careers is very fulfilling for me. So I feel lucky to have my career.

On weekends, my other job/hobby is a makeup artist for weddings mostly, which is a fun and creative outlet. I love being able to make someone feel beautiful on such an important day. And, this past year I did makeup for two Bootique trainers at their weddings, which was a blast.

Kanani’s Experience with Bootique Fitness

Kanani talks about how she came to work out with us and what her experience has been like in our San Diego boot camp.

You celebrated your anniversary with Bootique Fitness in Oct! What’s that like?

Yes, I can’t believe how fast the year went by. I felt proud to have made it through a whole year of getting my butt out of bed and into workout clothes at 6:30 AM (yes, that is early for me) to go to boot camp, and how much more fit I feel now.

What was your life like before Bootique Fitness?

I’ve always been a really active person, but after having a baby and also working full-time, I was in a rut. I used to work out at gyms and did kickboxing and other classes that I enjoyed, but couldn’t seem to find time for post-baby. So, my workouts became not only boring (mainly free weights, elliptical, and running), but were also pretty un-challenging because I was doing it on my own, and it turns out that I’m not a very demanding trainer.

What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness? How do your results make you feel?

I’m super happy with the results. I’ve lost about 2% body fat and my arms and core are much more toned in particular. I absolutely feel a lot stronger and more energetic than I did a year ago as well. I think I’m much healthier overall – I haven’t even been sick (knock on wood) in the past year since starting boot camp. So, I feel grateful to have found something that works well with my lifestyle and I know is also really good for me.

What is the biggest difference in your life since you started Bootique Fitness?

I look at fitness in a more positive way now. It used be something that I felt I HAD to do so I wasn’t busting out of my skinny jeans, but I generally dreaded it.

Now I feel positively committed to boot camp and Zumba, because I know I’ll see the results I want and have fun while I’m there. With Jaylin’s help, I also try to make better choices in terms of nutrition – less processed foods, more protein and veggies… And, I even pass up that last glass of wine on a night before I have to get up for boot camp… as I know I’ll really regret it if I don’t. Burpees + hangovers = hell!

Tell me about your experience with the trainers.

All the trainers I’ve met are incredibly positive, motivational, and are super cool, genuinely good people as well. Also, I like that they push each person individually. I feel that it’s like having a personal trainer for your specific level of fitness, but more fun because the other ladies are there to share in the drudgery and joke around with as well.

What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?

The results I’ve seen, the challenge and creativity in the workouts, and the people I’ve met. Even if I complain and groan a lot while doing it, I like how difficult the workouts are every time, and that they are different every time as well, which keeps it interesting. I’m lucky enough to live very close to the Hillcrest classes, so I can even run to class if I’m feeling particularly motivated… and can’t use a commute as an excuse!

I started Zumba soon after I joined Bootique, and now look forward to going because it feels more like a like a booty-shaking dance party than a workout. And, it’s super entertaining to see the creative improvisation on the routines from a select group – you know who you are. 😉

Why should other women just like you consider Bootique Fitness as their solution?

Because it’s the real deal!

I’ve done a lot of different organized exercise classes over the years, as well as tried working out on my own, and Bootique is the most efficient and motivating one I’ve found. I believe that no matter where you start in terms of your fitness level, you will definitely see a huge amount of progress and improvement. I felt like I didn’t have time to fit an organized fitness program in my schedule that could make a difference like this has, but Bootique Fitness has changed my mind!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I’m really happy that I Googled “boot camp san diego” one day in Sept 2012 while feeling like I need a kick in the butt, and that Jaylin is up on her SEO so Bootique came up first! I have met some fabulous new friends and inspiring women from Zumba and boot camp, and feel grateful to Jaylin for creating such a great opportunity and atmosphere with Bootique Fitness. Jaylin, Ms. CEO, is so full of boundless and positive energy and is so committed to her business that I find that very inspiring as well.

Thank you Miss Kanani! We love training you!

Be sure to congratulate and celebrate Kanani when you see her at boot camp! She plays at the Hillcrest boot camps and Zumba classes.
