What is Zumba?
Zumba is a dance-based cardio class that allows you to forget that you are working out.
Get swept up in the fun of dancing to Latin and other international music styles in this class designed with easy-to-follow moves that will keep your heart pumping and your metabolism burning. The songs are choreographed in patterns that are easy to learn – so you don’t have to be a trained dancer to pick this up. The music is infectious. It makes you want to move.
Who Can Participate?
You can start Zumba at any fitness level and there are no dance requirements. I always say that rhythm and coordination are overrated. In our classes, everyone gets to feel like a dancer – even if you have ‘2 left feet’.
Each song starts off with a light intensity version of the moves. Then, I’ll show you how to increase your intensity when you’re ready so that you can adjust the workout to your current fitness level.
Why is Zumba so popular?
Simply… because it’s fun! How many times have you tried to get fit by forcing yourself to spend hours on a treadmill or elliptical machine? Did it work? Not usually… and it’s not your fault. Those machines are boring – and no one wants to keep up a boring exercise program.
However – think of something that’s really fun for you – have you ever had trouble getting yourself to do that thing? Probably not… having fun is a natural motivator. Having fun makes it easy to get hooked! Having fun makes it easy to forget you’re working out… and it just becomes a party!
Why does Zumba make you lose weight?
Losing weight is not hard – I know, it feels hard though, right? That’s just because you’ve been trying to lose weight in a way that is not right for you. You’ve been trying to force yourself to do things you don’t want to do – things that are not fun… and you don’t stick with it.
I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t stick with it either. The secret to weight loss – is simply to do things that are fun for you… that promote weight loss. That means, in addition to finding meals that are in line with your goals and satisfy you, to also find calorie-burning activities that you enjoy doing. It’s common to burn up to 800 calories in a Zumba class. Doesn’t that sound fun?
