Easy Moves You Can Do Anywhere – Be More Active

We all know that the more active you are throughout the day, the better it is for your body.

But for many of us, our jobs entail being sedentary most of the day. Between that and vegging out at home, staying active can be a challenge. Even if you find yourself with some extra time under quarantine, you might not find yourself super motivated to move, but that’s what our “sneaky” movement tips are for.

Well, Bootique is here to help with some out-of-the-box ways to move more and sit less.

While brushing

Dentist recommend the 2/2 rule, meaning you should brush your teeth for two minutes at a time twice a day. This is a great excuse to get a mini workout in! Squats and calf raises are an easy and effective leg workout you can squeeze in day and night while you brush. Two minutes is a long time, so you can break up the moves by focusing on squats for one minute and calf raises for the second minute.

While binge watching

Instead of fast forwarding through the commercials to get back to your favorite show, use that break to get in a mini workout. Planks, push-ups, jumping jacks, sit ups and squats are all moves you can perform easily in your living room. On average, an hour-long show has 16 minutes of commercial time. Make a game of it and switch up your move every time the commercial changes. Imagine what a great workout you could get in if you used that time to move.

Pump up the volume

Every time you have to do a mundane chore, turn on some tunes and start grooving. Dancing to your favorite songs helps the time fly by and can actually make chores like unloading the dishwasher, cooking dinner, even folding laundry fun! Not only that, continuous dancing for 30 minutes can burn between 200-400 calories.

While sitting in at a traffic light

For a lot of us, the first instinct we have when we get to a stop light or are stuck in traffic is to check our phones. Not only is this behavior extremely dangerous, distracted driving is also illegal in California. Instead of reaching for your phone to beat the boredom, pump up the volume again. Every time you are stopped, get your dance on  and really move those arms around! Not only will you have more fun and move more, but I’m sure you’ll brighten the day of any cars near-by.

It’s important to move through the day as often as you can. Our bodies weren’t built to sit, so the more you can counteract the negative impact of sitting, the healthier you will be.
