We are proud to announce Cynthia as our Featured Boot Camp Client!
Since our trainer Sarah knows Cynthia better than me, I reach out to her for a little history about her: “If you see a little white convertible Mazda Miata racing into the Mission Bay parking lot on 2 wheels, there’s only one guess as to who is driving… Cynthia rarely misses a camp session! Even though she’s almost always 1-2 minutes late, you can count on her to be in a good mood!
She’s incredibly thoughtful. When it was really cold last winter she would bring me hand warmers. In the Summer, she would being me oranges from her backyard tree. She also volunteers for Project Adventure, a company that helps people overcome perceived limitations by teaching them safe ways to be adventurous.
What would you like people to know about you?
I’ve put my Computer Science degree to use throughout my career. Currently I am a graduate student studying Geographic Information Science; after attending a GIS workshop I wanted to learn more!
Physical activities that I’ve been enthusiastic about in the past include bicycling, archery, aikido and sports car driving. I occasionally “work” at the UCSD Challenge Course, which is a ropes course with a zip line. I got into that because I wanted to try the Challenge Course out for myself!
Cynthia’s Experience with Bootique Fitness
Cynthia talks about how she came to work out with us and what her experience has been like in our San Diego boot camp.
How long have you been training with Bootique Fitness?
My first boot camp was August 2012. I’ve participated regularly ever since. Boot camp three times a week is permanently blocked out on my calendar; sometimes I am able to participate more frequently.
What was your life like before Bootique Fitness?
I was advised to avoid working out for 6 months after surgery, but somehow 4 years passed. I became sedentary, sitting in front of a computer for hours. Plus, I had difficulty falling asleep because my brain was still working.
What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness? How do your results make you feel?
I’ve had to buy smaller pants and fall asleep quickly now. I feel more aware of when my body needs to move or drink water, and my strength and endurance have increased.
What is the biggest difference in your life since you started Bootique Fitness?
I feel like I get more accomplished these days because of the early and energetic start on the day.
Tell me about your experience with the trainers.
I have trained with Sarah, Sabrina, Mollie, as well as Ed back in the day. I appreciate their dedication in being present for us so early in the morning, rain or shine, keeping us engaged by providing variety and encouragement in the activities, checking our form and making accommodations or adding challenges as needed, and their patience in repeating instructions during a moment of early morning mental fog.
What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?
I’ve lived in San Diego for almost my entire life, but have traveled, so I know that we are privileged to be able to train outdoors year-round in such scenic venues! Nature is amazing, there are ducks, herons, coots, seagulls, squirrels, double rainbows… I’ve even grown to admire the colors of the sunrise. Generally it is so much more interesting and exhilarating to train outdoors than in a gym!
Why should other women just like you consider Bootique Fitness as their solution?
It’s a relative short but intense time commitment to effectively promote your overall health and fitness that is never boring; the small group format provides a fitness-oriented community, but you never get lost in the crowd; plus it is outdoors!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
My husband Keith has been incredibly supportive. Although he delights in waking me up, he also fixes breakfast so I have the energy for boot camp – even on his days off! I’m lucky that we are on the same team.
Thank you Miss Cynthia! We love training you!
Be sure to congratulate and celebrate Cynthia when you see her at boot camp! She plays at the Mission Bay boot camps and occasionally visits our Zumba classes.
