Bootique Featured Client – Dr Mel

Congratulations Miss January!

We are proud to announce Dr. Mel as our Featured Bootique Client!

Mel comes to us to get as strong as she is smart… and you can see from her nickname, that’s not an easy thing to do – but together, we rock at it! She always puts her best into class and we love seeing her progress.

Equally as fun was having her on our team at Bootique’s trivia night as this lady pulled some random but completely accurate answers seemingly out of thin air.

Sabrina shares: “My favorite recent moment with her. Is that she left her shoes at home before she went to work so she came to class and did the entire thing barefoot because she didn’t want to miss her workout.”

What would you like people to know about you?

I grew up in San Diego with dolls, building blocks, books, ice skates, music and softball bats. I went to school for a long time so if you want to call me Dr. Mel that’s okay with me. I currently get paid to play with fancy toys and manipulate small volumes of liquids, both of which I enjoy and am good at. My husband Matt and I met in a running club and we have a very nice life.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of our classes?

I like outdoor activities like running, biking, hiking, and SUP, and I play softball once or twice a week. Inside I like to sew, read, and watch movies.

Tell us an interesting or unusual fact about yourself.

I once found a live lobster on a sidewalk in New Hampshire.

How about sharing one of your guilty pleasure?

I’m not safe to let loose around your licorice or fresh raspberries!

How long have you been training with Bootique Fitness?

I started about 8 months ago. It’s fabulous!

What was your life like before Bootique Fitness? How is that different now that you train with Bootique?

I used to just run a lot. It kept me thin, but I had no strength whatsoever. I tried other gyms and videos and had some success but had trouble sticking with them when my schedule got busy. With Bootique I get way more support and accountability.

What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness? How do your results make you feel?

I think the biggest change is in my core strength. I generally feel like I have a lot more control over my body. And I feel much more willing to try new movements. I’ve always struggled with pushing past discomfort. Something about being with a bunch of other women working on the same things allows me to stop getting in my own head. It’s amazing how much longer 20 second plank feels alone at home vs in class.

Tell me about your experience with the trainers.

Jaylin and Sabrina usually teach the classes that fit my schedule but all the trainers are awesome. They really get to know you, and figure out how to push you and where to give you accommodations, etc. The workouts are all really well designed, and there is a ton of variety so I don’t feel like it’s the same thing over and over.

What are your favorite/least favorite exercises?

I like pulling exercises and throwing things. Single leg deadlifts always hurt soooo much the next day.

What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?

I like that I can be me. I don’t ever feel like I don’t belong, even when I don’t know any names.

What would you say to someone on the fence about making a change & committing to their goals?

I’ve been there so many times and the thing is it’s always better to live your life the way you want to be living it, not the way that feels easiest. The “maybe tomorrows” always feel worse than any temporary pain from something that’s initially difficult. Keep your goals real and remember that anything that’s not zero is not moving away from them.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you for all your support!

Thank you Dr. Mel! We love training you!
