October Featured Boot Camp Client – Erin
Congratulations Erin!
We are proud to announce Erin as our Featured Boot Camp Client!
Erin, better known as ‘Coach Erin’ is known for her ability to teach Zumba dance clinics, find the intro beat to every song and to recognize every single blooper I make teaching Zumba – even before I make it! Not to mention… This girl has the moves!
I knew Erin was going to be an awesome client as soon as she started. Even as a newbie in her first couple of weeks, she went out of her way to make other ladies feel good and welcome on their first day of boot camp. She even stays after class to encourage timid first-timers to join Bootique – and lets them know what a great experience she is having! I couldn’t be more appreciative!
Erin continues to be a phenomenal client and friend! She’s completely dedicated to attending boot camp and Zumba and has held that commitment for an entire year already – one of our best attendance rates. This kind of consistency is a major accomplishment! We are so proud!
Not only does Erin show up, she works! And just as important – she plays! She’s an endless source of entertainment to our Bootique’ers, as you will see in her stories below.
What would you like people to know about you?
I am one of the luckiest people I know and life is good!
I love my job, I’m happily married, and I have a great network of friends and family close by that sustain me and bring me joy. I work at Qualcomm (and in private practice) as an executive coach and leadership consultant, which is really a fancy way of saying “I help managers be better managers” as my husband likes to say when people ask him about my job. I teach team-building workshops, professional development seminars and do one-on-one coaching with managers and employees to help people do what they do best, and work more effectively within a team.
I am a San Diego native and currently live in the fabulous neighborhood of North Park with my husband Omar, who is an attorney and a very active community advocate and volunteer. We LOVE our neighborhood and enjoy taking walks, meeting our neighbors, and exploring the great restaurants and bars that our ‘hood and surrounding area has to offer. We are huge foodies and love to geek out on delicious, adventurous cuisine. I’m a damn good cook too, if I do say so myself!
We also love to travel and experience new places, new people and new perspectives on the world, which is one reason why we are happily child-free (although we do love spending time with our niece and nephews!). We also enjoy hiking, the beach, and generally all the outdoor options that living in this great city provides.
Erin’s Experience with Bootique Fitness
Erin talks about how she came to work out with us and what her experience has been like in our San Diego boot camp.
How long have you been training with Bootique Fitness?
I just hit my 1 year Bootique anniversary on September 17th! Yay me!
What was your life like before Bootique Fitness?
Well, before Bootique I was getting a little more SLEEP 3 days a week than I am now (can’t you just hear Jaylin saying “you’re welcome!”)… haha, actually I have always been pretty good at working out regularly and being generally active, but what I wasn’t doing was pushing myself hard enough. And I had no one to keep me accountable but myself, so I’d often go a week or two without working out, which would make it much harder to get back on the wagon if I fell off from time to time.
Now I have a very small, very loud person to hold me personally accountable for not only showing up but for working my butt off and not being a slacker, which is helpful. Don’t tell her I said that though. 🙂 …………… (Bless your heart Erin! – Jaylin)
What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness? How do your results make you feel?
Since I started with Bootique I’ve lost 10 pounds and more importantly, more than 16 inches all over! I feel more confident in clothes and I love wearing tank tops and showing off my much-stronger shoulders! But beyond just the physical changes I feel more confident in general and stronger as a person.
What is the biggest difference in your life since you started Bootique Fitness?
I have always struggled with my weight as an adult, at least post-college (corporate sedentary job be damned!) and because of my passion for good food it’s been hard to find balance so I found my weight continuing to creep up a little each year.
What I have found that changed dramatically since working out with Bootique is that my goals have changed, and therefore my perspective on weight loss changed too.
I am no longer focused on the number on the scale or the stupid BMI calculator that insists (even now) that I am “obese.” Instead I am focused more on my overall health, feeling stronger and setting measurable fitness goals like being able to do all my boot camp push ups on my toes rather than knees, or holding a plank until Jaylin calls time, things like that.
Those achievements make me feel way more proud of myself than losing another 5 pounds, which motivates me to keep going and keep showing up and working hard. I still have more pounds to lose but I feel like my focus is in the right place now and if I continue to get stronger, the weight loss will happen more naturally.
Tell me about your experience with the trainers.
When I signed up for Bootique I was looking for the right combination of knowledge, tough love and encouragement, without screaming drill sergeants or 2 hour marathon workouts every day (who does this? don’t these people have jobs?) and I am thrilled to say that I found the sweet spot that works for me with Bootique.
All of the trainers I’ve worked with are amazing, and they seem to strike that hard-to-find balance between kicking my butt and motivating me to keep going in a positive, affirming way. I’ve worked most closely with Sarah and Jaylin, and their talent, energy and passion for their work is certainly evident, and impresses me every day. Except when they make me do burpees, then I’m not so much a fan. 🙂
What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?
As much as I love the boot camp workouts (well, love is a strong word…) and I feel great when I’m done, I show up every day because of my girls.
There is such an awesome community of women at boot camp (and Zumba) and we have so much fun every day talking smack and sharing stories, and it makes the time fly (especially when it’s a really unfortunate set of exercises that I just don’t particularly care for).
Zumba, however, is all about fun. It’s become a booty-shaking addiction and it’s always a good time. If you spent your 20’s dancing in the club, it’s an excellent alternative to get your dance mojo on if you’re like me and are too damn old to be shakin’ it at the club with the young’uns. Besides, I can’t stay out that late anymore cause I have to get up early for bootcamp!
Why should other women just like you consider Bootique Fitness as their solution?
Bootique is a great fit for women who want a quick, efficient workout with trainers who are supportive and motivating, and a fabulous group of women to cheer you on. Plus it’s highly individualized so everyone fits in – there are women of all ages and fitness levels and no judgment about your size or abilities.
The bottom line is that you’ll see progress, whether that’s being able to finally do 1 pushup or 100, everyone moves forward from wherever they started, and that’s a beautiful thing.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Just a quick shout out to Jaylin for the way she runs her business. Having worked with hundreds of business owners and leaders in my career (and as a business owner myself), I am always impressed with people who can share their talent and provide a good or service in a professional, customer-oriented way. Jaylin impressed me on day 1 with the tea and epsom salts and multiple encouraging texts in my first week of workouts. I have no idea if she has little texting elves working for her or if she’s just extremely efficient with her time, but I often feel like I am her only client; she is so tuned in to my experience and my personal progress. It’s an amazing thing, and to create that experience for all of her clients is something many business owners should aspire to. You go, J!
Thank you Miss Erin! We love training you!
Be sure to congratulate and celebrate Erin when you see her at boot camp! She plays at the 7:15 Hillcrest boot camps and Zumba classes.
