May Featured Boot Camp Client – Karen
Congratulations Karen!
We are proud to announce Karen as our Featured Boot Camp Client!
Karen has been with us for over 4 years! Through college, through finals, through getting hired and through numerous tax seasons. Karen’s life carries a lot of stress. We’ve talked many times about how she felt she couldn’t make time to take care of herself… and yet… here she is!
The difference between Karen and many people – when Karen has trouble, she asks for help and ACCEPTS it! She’s learned by practice that every single time she reaches out for help, everyone at Bootique is more than happy to lend a hand. After all, that’s what family is for, yes?
Karen, we are so proud of you and all that you have accomplished!
What would you like people to know about you?
I am originally from Mexico City, Mexico but San Diego has been home for a while now. I studied Accounting and Economics at the University of San Diego and decided that I would also start my career in this city. I am a Tax Senior at a “big 4” public accounting firm. I stay busy working a very packed schedule but I am also involved in the affinity groups at my firm such as the Latino Professional Network and the Women’s Professional Network. This has given me the chance to mentor high school and middle school students that are getting ready for college. I love learning languages and it is a life long goal to be able to communicate while traveling. While I do enjoy my workweek in heels and business attire, I love to hike with friends during the weekend.
Karen’s Experience with Bootique Fitness
Karen talks about how she came to work out with us and what her experience has been like in our San Diego boot camp.
How long have you been training with Bootique Fitness?
I have been training with Bootique Fitness for over 4 years now. I still remember the first time I attended the Hillcrest boot camp and Jaylin plus a few boot campers were playing with Frisbees before class… right then I knew I would stay and become part of this awesome group of women.
What was your life like before Bootique Fitness?
I joined Bootique during my junior year of college, when I was deciding what career path to follow. I was never really active and it was extremely difficult for me to follow a routine. I tried going to the gym and taking group classes but nothing really kept me interested.
What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness? How do your results make you feel?
The results have been more than just physical appearance. I know I am stronger than ever! I recently completed one of the most challenging hikes in San Diego. The “Three Sisters Falls” hiking trail really put me to the test. It was a very humbling experience. I climbed rocks, walked down (very steep) dirt trails, used ropes to climb up and down, and made it back alive! This might sound like a regular Saturday for anyone that is an avid hiker but I consider myself the opposite of this. I have never been the “outdoorsy” type but Bootique Fitness has shown me that there is no better way to workout. Please remember to stay hydrated if you are attempting any hikes during a hot day!
What is the biggest difference in your life since you started Bootique Fitness?
Accountability! Jaylin made it clear that she would always be there for me as long as I knew that the effort that goes into each workout has to be continued outside of class. Accountability for me is more about sticking to my plan in the long run. I travel often to Chicago for week-long technical trainings or coaching one of the introductory tax classes. I make sure to work out as much as possible so I am not sore and sorry after my first Monday back at boot camp.
When it is Tax busy season, my coworker (and fellow bootiquer) Natalia, and I go to the gym in the office building and follow Sabrina’s videos for our Tabata Tuesdays/Thursdays. Natalia is my accountability partner and one of my best friends. She lets me know when I am not trying hard at all and continues to encourage me to finish each workout as strong as we started.
Tell me about your experience with the trainers.
I have trained with Jaylin, Sarah, Sabrina, and Mollie. All trainers are different and they challenge boot campers in a different way. Recently, I have been going to the La Jolla boot camp and training with Sabrina. She can tell you that I will complain for 45 minutes straight but I do enjoy getting “Sabrina’d” every Monday and Wednesday. Zumba with Jaylin has always been fun and I recommend it to everyone. It is the best way to melt stress away and have fun while doing it. Sarah loves her obstacle courses, sandbags, kettle bells, and ropes. While Mollie’s boot camp in Mission Bay feels like I am training like an athlete. Have I mentioned she is a professional Rugby player? I have not trained with Ro yet, but I do follow her on instagram and she inspires everyone around her to improve with every single workout. I hope to get the “Ro experience” soon.
What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?
I get to work out with friends. Over the years I have gotten to know this group of women and developed friendships. I love when Bootique Fitness organizes fun workouts like paddle boarding!
Why should other women just like you consider Bootique Fitness as their solution?
Bootique Fitness is a complete body workout. It is never the same and the trainers are always thinking about the next session and how to progressively push us to get stronger.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Everyone in my office knows that I take time to workout and they have been supportive of this. I have noticed that I am more productive at work after I take a break to go to boot camp and it keeps my spirits up during stressful times with hard deadlines.
Thank you Miss Karen! We love training you!
Be sure to congratulate and celebrate Karen when you see her! She usually plays at the La Jolla boot camps classes and makes guest appearances in our Zumba classes.
