Kristy is incredible! Though she’ll try to quietly get by with her cheerleader strong arms during dance fitness party classes and her gymnasts perfect handstands at boot camp, we can’t help but shine a spot light on her achievements. Good thing too, because this seemingly serious sail boat designer has a silly side too. It’s always a good time to see her break out into her own groove!
Sabrina adds: “I love watching her exercise, she’s so graceful. Ex: awesome handstand donkey kicks. Once she lost Her balance but simply tucked into a ball and rolled up into a standing position.”
Ali adds: “Kristy is super strong! Her chaturangas are perfection, and that’s rare to come by. She is such a fun yoga client to have.”
What would you like our community to know about you?
I’m originally from upstate NY but have been in San Diego for the past 16 years – once you get used to it here it’s pretty difficult to move somewhere else! Among other selling points, you can sail all year round here which is a major part of my life.
Kristy’s Experience with Bootique Fitness
Kristy talks about how she came to work out with us and what her experience has been like in our San Diego boot camp.
How long have you been training with Bootique Fitness?
I responded to a 30-day challenge in May 2015, and became a member immediately after that – as soon as Bootique entered my life I couldn’t believe how perfect it was for me – lots of outside time, bodyweight exercises, dancing and yoga, just all things I really like. I’ve unfortunately had some health issues at the start of this year, and not being able to go to class was the hardest part! I’m so happy to be back and working up to full steam again.
What was your life like before Bootique Fitness?
I wasted a lot of time on classes I didn’t really enjoy, so it was always a huge effort to make myself go and I’d become very intermittent with my fitness. I find that I respond really well to someone challenging me – without yelling at me – and that can be difficult to find.
What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness? How do your results make you feel?
I’ve lost about 10 pounds in the last 10 months (and it feels fantastic to be able to wear my old smaller size clothes!), but more importantly for me I have gained a lot of strength – those 25lb Monday dumbbells were definitely not possible for me last year. Even better though are the mental benefits. I tend to give into stress, but going to class everyday burns off anxiety and quiets my mind to help me focus throughout the day – it’s really (finally, for me anyway) true that spending the energy in class gives me more energy.
What is the biggest difference in your life since you started Bootique Fitness?
I’d say the biggest difference is having a routine that I really do stick to, which has the obvious benefits of consistent fitness, but the side benefits of helping me dedicate a part of my day to prioritizing my health, and bringing a general awareness to every day choices. Seeing what everyone at class accomplishes everyday makes you appreciate how capable your body can be if you try. There are body types of all sized and a wide variety of ages, but everyone is out there killing it!
Tell me about your experience with the trainers.
Bootcamp workouts are always both challenging and fun at the same time. Each time, we do something different and I can feel results almost immediately. I mostly end up at Jaylin and Sabrina’s classes, and they have different styles, but each is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, professional and intelligent. It never ceases to amaze me how dedicated they are – I swear I never have to wait more than a few minutes to get a response to any text. Sabrina knows how to make me push myself when I’m slacking without making me feel bad about myself, and thanks to Jaylin’s incredible energy, dance cardio class never feels like work, just a (sweaty?) party. Ali’s yoga classes are also a fantastic counter-balance to round out my week.
What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?
Going in, I didn’t really know what the ‘personal’ in ‘personal group training’ would mean, but it turned out to be definitely more than just a phrase. Everyone goes over and above to really understand each of the clients and how to get the best out of them, including out-of-class support when needed.
Why should other women just like you consider Bootique Fitness as their solution?
I most enjoy being around such a positive group of amazing women that all want to do something good from themselves. Every woman at these classes is truly an inspiration, and they quickly become your personal fitness cheerleaders and confidants both in and out of class. The atmosphere at every bootcamp, dance cardio or yoga class is always upbeat, encouraging and fun – and the only competitive vibe is just between you and yourself.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I was super intimidated my first boot camp class, and thought it was something I ‘should’ do but hopefully just wouldn’t hate – but I had no reason to fear because now it’s something I love doing!
