How To Burn Up To 800 Calories in Zumba Class

Do you love Zumba?

So do we at Bootique Fitness!

Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez in the 1990s. The cardio exercise incorporates dance and aerobic moves borrowed from all types of choreography including: hip-hop, samba, salsa, soca, merengue and more.

Zumba is a modern day craze with over 12 million people dancing regularly across the globe. It’s an amazing way to for the community to come together and exercise in a healthy and exciting way. Zumba is not only fun, but it has positive effects on your cardiovascular health, endurance and overall mood and well-being.

Burn more calories with these Zumba tips

Here are some tricks to get the most out of your Zumba class and burn even more calories! As we say, lose yourself in the music, find yourself in the shape.

1. Let Loose
Don’t worry about your dancing neighbors, the mirror or your every precise move. Zumba is about having fun, letting go and doing it big. Don’t be self-conscious! When you let loose, you have more fun and stay moving. If you are focused on every step, you will end up in a stand-still. Keep that heart rate up and let loose!

2. Maximize Your Arm Movement
During the moves, be sure to fully extend your arms, one expert says. You’ll boost your calorie burn and engage more muscles by maximizing your arm movements during class. “It’s not that tricky and you can do a lot for your body by lengthening, raising, and extending with oomph.”

3. Jump and Work Your Booty!
During the times where you can add-on a jump or other plyometric, do it! If your knees are good, moving and jumping can quickly boost your calorie burn and get those legs in shape. Always push through your heels to work the packs of your legs and booty. There is a lot of booty shaking in Zumba, so keep it moving, sister!

4. Rock those Moves!
You may not have every move memorized yet, but that is not the goal of Zumba. The goal is to stay moving and get fit. So rock the moves you know (like that favorite one in Usher’s “Scream”)! Or any move from one of your favorite routines. Accentuate the moves that you are comfortable with and add your own flair to the movement. Rock it!
