Eat a Rainbow 5 Day Food Challenge

If you have been thinking about overhauling your eating habits, it may feel a little bit daunting having to decide what stays, what goes and having to avoid your favorite foods for the foreseeable future. But choosing healthier foods doesn’t have to be scary, and the good news is that each day, we get to hit the reset button and decide what works in our healthy lifestyle and what no longer fits.

Instead of removing guilty pleasures from the menu, try focusing instead on what healthy foods you can add to your plate each day. To take the guess work out and help you kick start ideas on what you can add, we are presenting the 5-day rainbow challenge!

Getting Involved

No registration is required for this easy call to action. We are challenging you to add one color of the rainbow to your plate every day for five days. For a healthier boost, try to incorporate the color of the day into every meal. No artificial rainbows here, though! Choose fresh or frozen produce for the best nutritional bang for your buck.

Here is your easy to follow weekday guide:

Monday = Red
Tasty Ideas: Red peppers, ruby apples, turnips, raspberries, tomatoes, beets

Tuesday = Orange
Tasty Ideas: Carrots, butternut squash, apricots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, oranges

Wednesday = Yellow
Tasty Ideas: Lemons, pineapples, bananas, yellow peppers, pears, corn, summer squash

Thursday = Green
Tasty Ideas: Green peppers, jalapenos, green apples, green grapes, kale, cucumber, limes, kiwi

Friday = Blue/Purple
Tasty Ideas: Blueberries, eggplant, acai, plums, figs, purple cabbage, shallots, blackberries

Get creative with your food, there is no right answer. You don’t have to use the foods in their whole form, try adding them into a smoothie, dip or as part of a delicious quiche. Adding more produce into your regular meals will give you a boost of many essential vitamins and nutrients that you may otherwise not be getting.
