Alicia is a bright ray of sunshine at 6 am – quick to take on any challenge we throw at her! Despite her crazy busy work schedule, she stays committed to her morning workouts and it’s fantastic to see as that kind of commitment pays off with great looking results.
She shares her positive attitude with the crew, choosing to focus on “opportunity areas” (see below) rather than problem areas. Her sense of humor carries through to yoga as she shows up to class in a “I’m here for the Namaste” shirt. You can’t help but smile when you’re working out with Alicia.
Ro shares: “Alicia puts the A in Ab workouts! She loves anything core, probably because she’s also a flexible, handstanding yogi. She keeps trying to get me to try something called a “Crow Pose” and I keep having to remind her that I’m a runner not a crower 🙂 She’s really makes every class such a pleasure; and it’s not just because she baked us some seriously amazing paleo cookies last week!”
What would you like people to know about you?
I live in Mission Valley with my boyfriend Bryan and my pug Monday. They have both been crazy supportive of my fitness journey—Bryan is the best paleo recipe taste tester/guinea pig and Monday has graciously modified her morning walk schedule (not as easy as it sounds) to allow me to do 6 am bootcamp during the week.
Alicia’s Experience with Bootique Fitness
Alicia talks about how she came to work out with us and what her experience has been like in our San Diego boot camp.
How long have you been training with Bootique Fitness?
I’ve been training with Bootique for a year and a half (since January 2014)
What was your life like before Bootique Fitness?
Prior to coming to Bootique I’d tried a few other local co-ed bootcamps. While I met a few great instructors along the way, I hated that many of the businesses cared more about my membership dollars than whether or not training helped me in reaching my goals. I realized that what I really needed was personalization and accountability to help move me toward’s lifestyle change, which is something I found at Bootique!
What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness?
Not only have I lost weight, but I’ve lost inches and traded out a lot of body fat for muscle. I can do push-ups and I can run without getting winded anymore! I can finally pull off arm balances in yoga and I’m “thisclose” to perfecting a handstand.
How do your results make you feel?
As a kid, I was a total bookworm type who was usually picked last or sitting the bench when it came to sports. I had never in my life thought of myself as being athletic. Now I enjoy showing off my “strongs” and muscle definition.
What is the biggest difference in your life since you started Bootique Fitness?
The biggest difference in my life is that health and fitness is finally now a part of my life and my daily routine. I’ve also learned to be kinder to my body and my spirit. Instead of focusing on negatives, I’ve gotten much better at acknowledging how far I’ve come and what I’m capable of now. My new favorite saying is that nobody has “problem areas”—we all have “opportunity areas”!
Tell me about your experience with the trainers.
I usually do bootcamp with Sabrina, Ro, Jaylin, and practice yoga with Ali. I love how passionate and approachable all of the trainers are. They get to know their clients and take the time to understand our needs, limitations, and goals. Each of the trainers I’ve worked with have helped me achieve a fitness goal through their coaching.
What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?
One of the things I enjoy about Bootique is the amazing and diverse group of women who train here. They help just as much as the trainers do when it comes to accountability. We push each other and encourage each other during class and outside of class. I definitely feel blessed to have had the opportunity to become friends with many of them!
Why should other women just like you consider Bootique Fitness as their solution?
This isn’t the kind of class where you can sneak into the back row and blend. This isn’t the kind of class where you skip out and no one notices.
It’s personal training in a group setting so slacking off is hard to do. Come prepared to work hard and sweat! It doesn’t matter if you’re the best or the fastest or able to do the most reps. It matters that you’re doing it and giving it your all. I personally recommend taking advantage of Bootique’s early morning sessions. I’ve always found that the later in the day I work out, the more time I have to make excuses for skipping a workout. An early morning workout is a great way to start the day on a high note!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I’ve always loved to cook but since making health a bigger priority in my life, I love learning about nutrition, especially figuring out ways to healthy modify my favorite comfort foods. Hit me up if you want to talk probiotics, veggie noodling, or paleo sweet potato gnocchi!
