April Featured Boot Camp Client – Sakshi

Congratulations Sakshi!

We are proud to announce Sakshi as our Featured Boot Camp Client! After all… TODAY is her birthday!!!

Sakshi is an incredible addition to our Bootique family. No matter what kind of crazy day she’s had at the lab or how many Prius drivers have irritated her that day… she always comes to boot camp with a friendly face and a desire to work hard.

She’s quick to make friends with our clients and make newbies feel welcome. Her long-time workout buddy, Robbin shares: “I couldn’t have a better workout partner. She really, really watches out for me. If I’m hurt or an exercise is bothering my hip, she speaks up and tells me not to do it or makes sure I modify it. She pushes me to go faster or farther. I truly don’t know what I’m going to do when she moves back to India.” That’s right ladies, Sakshi has announced that she’s moving away this year (though we will rally hard to convince her to stay 🙂 ).

As you’ll see below, she also cares very deeply about beer! She once road a bike for 30 miles just because there was a beer at the other end of the ride. She’s the crazy kind of girl that likes to get mud thrown on her as she signs up with the Bootique Babes for events like the Dirty Girl Mud Run, and Del Mar Mud Run. Plus, she plays at the Diva Dash, San Diego Blood Bank 5K, and the City of Hope 5K.

What would you like people to know about you?

I am a science nerd who moved to San Diego about 6 years back to pursue research. Love talking about books, particularly sci-fi/fantasy and am better known for my collection of science /fantasy related T-shirts.

Sakshi’s Experience with Bootique Fitness

Sakshi talks about how she came to work out with us and what her experience has been like in our San Diego boot camp.

How long have you been training with Bootique Fitness?

I joined Bootique a little over 2 years ago. When I finally accepted that I couldn’t excuse my weight gain and fitness level with “thesis gut” excuse, I called Jaylin up about trying out the class.

She ended the call with, “see you tomorrow, right?” and I couldn’t say no to her enthusiasm and I still can’t ( I think I see burpees in my future).

What was your life like before Bootique Fitness?

I went from being a busy grad student with no time to sleep to a working professional after moving to San Diego. My metabolism shifting gears after 35 and this coupled with my love for beer, started my downward spiral into weight gain and reduced fitness. I tried diets (well, if you keep drinking carbs, you are not getting thin) and exercise in gyms just put me off.

What results have you seen since coming to Bootique Fitness? How do your results make you feel?

On my first day at Bootique, I could do 3 push ups and couldn’t hold a plank for more than 5 seconds. I look at my work outs now and I know I have come a long way.

I have learned to accept my body, be positive, reward myself and think in terms of overall fitness and not just body weight (Thank you, Jaylin!).

How do your results make you feel?

Great! I wake up energetic and raring to go.

What is the biggest difference in your life since you started Bootique Fitness?

I look forward to exercise. I plan my day around workouts – getting to work earlier so that I can arrive on time to class.

Tell me about your experience with the trainers.

They are fantastic group of ladies. Every single Bootique trainer I have worked out with (shout to : Sarah, Molly, Sabrina, Jessica and Jaylin – thank you, ladies!) is invested in me. They motivate me to push a little bit harder every day. They are knowledgeable and approachable about fitness and health and always helpful – be it modifications for exercises either to accommodate injury or to add challenge, correcting form, or tips about stretching.

What do you enjoy the most about Bootique Fitness?

The boot camp is my treat to myself after a day’s work. I live for the evening workouts (yes, despite the constant moaning and groaning). I love all the lovely group of people who come to work out, especially coach Robbin who will never stop pushing me to do more than I wish to. The women who come to work out at Bootique are always encouraging, friendly and funny.

Why should other women just like you consider Bootique Fitness as their solution?

Bootique will help you achieve your goal – what ever your fitness level or age. Every workout is different and the 45 minutes pass by so quickly as you have fun while working your bum off. You will have a built in support group with like-minded women and the best trainers who will work with you.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I burpee for beer 🙂
