Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and between fancy dinners and chocolates galore, this is a day we tend to splurge a little too much. This year, indulge in healthier alternatives whether you are a party of one or part of a twosome.
1. Enjoy a treat
Treating yourself or someone you love doesn’t mean you have to also add to your waistline. Chocolate is awesome, and a box of chocolates is usually a staple gift for your Valentine but remember, moderation is the key. If chocolate is a must, opt for a small box instead of that jumbo size heart and stick to the dark chocolate, the darker the better, as it contains some antioxidant and heart health benefits. Or better yet, make your own dark chocolate dipped strawberries using organic ingredients.
2. Enjoy making dinner
Enjoying a five-course dinner at a fancy restaurant may sound like the perfect Valentine’s Day date, but give your waistline, and your wallet, a break and cook a lovely dinner at home. Restaurant meals tend to be loaded with excess salt, butter, calories and other additives that aren’t necessary. When you cook at home, you get to dictate what goes into your meal. Plus, heating things up in the kitchen with your sweetie allows you to connect with each other on an intimate level.
1. Enjoy connecting physically
Instead of the standard dinner and a movie, get moving instead! Try salsa dancing or go for a romantic stroll on the beach. It’s easier to connect when you are engaged with each other and there is no better way to do that than physical contact as you walk hand in hand or hold each other close on the dance floor.
1. Enjoy feeling young
Valentine’s Day falls on a Thursday this year, so why not celebrate with a Throwback Thursday date? Travel back in time to the 90’s and have some fun with laser tag or take some turns around the roller rink. Reminiscing about days gone by promotes personal interactions and sparks a level of nostalgia that makes us feel great.
For a real boost of young energy, join us for our Dance Fitness Party at 5:30 on Thursdays.
1. Enjoy some relaxation
Treat yourself and your loved one to a couple’s massage. Massages can be expensive and most of us don’t have the luxury of getting them all the time, so use this day as an excuse to indulge. Massages help us destress, reduce pain and relieve muscle tension, leaving us feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Regardless of how you choose to celebrate, there are many ways to enjoy your day that won’t derail your healthy lifestyle.
