We had a lot of fun dancing for 6 hours on Cinco de Mayo for the San Diego Safari Half Marathon Expo. Thank you to all of my Bootique Fitness ladies who came out to dance with me. We received great reviews from the Safari staff and spectators. You all were fantastic!!

Here are a couple of snidbits of some of our favorite songs.

Here's what San Diego Safari says about Bootique Fitness

"On Saturday, May 5, 2012, we held a Packet Pick-Up Expo at Road Runner Sports in San Diego, CA for the 2nd Annual Safari Park Half Marathon on Sunday, May 6, 2012. We invited Jaylin Allen with Bootique Fitness to come and be a part of our event to help educate runners about the growing trend of workout dance, known as Zumba. We were more than pleasantly surprised at Jaylin's performance. She and her team of dancers / workout enthusiasts were incredible! In fact, they never stopped. It was a very warm, very sunny day, and they were constantly up entertaining the more than 2,000 people who came to pick up their race bibs, T-shirts and goodie bags.

Her energy is contagious and tons of people had out their cell phones to record a quick video and get a picture of her amazing moves! I would highly recommend Jaylin and her team for any event. They were willing to work all day to promote Zumba and the music and energy they added to our Expo, helped to make our event a HUGE success!! We are so grateful to have met all of them, and hope they will join us again next year!"

- Jennifer Coleman, Special Events Coordinator with San Diego Zoo Global.

Zumba – How To Avoid Injuries

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

zumba san diego Zumba How To Avoid Injuries

Zumba, zumba, zumba. Sure, it's the latest fitness craze. As the craze keeps growing, some doctors fear the injuries as a result of Zumba will grow as well. While all those twists and turns in Zumba can be a fun way to slim down, those moves can also lead to injury. How can you enjoy Zumba while remaining injury free?

Choose a qualified Zumba Instructor

First, realize that while a great benefit of Zumba is the free style, go-at-your-own-pace dance moves, it's still a form of exercise. As such, maintaining proper form is important. Another important aspect of remaining injury free while enjoying Zumba is to find an instructor who is experienced. New instructors are usually eager for new clients, but the reality is they may not be as equipped at demonstrating proper form. A qualified instructor will take you through a proper warm up, show you modifications for the higher intensity moves and cool your body down after the workout.

So You Think You Can Zumba?

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

zumba san diego So You Think You Can Zumba?

"Ditch the workout, Join the party!"

Zumba is a high-energy, fast-paced dance workout that is a great way to kick up any cardio routine. But, if you are a first-time Zumba attendee, you probably have a lot of questions...

What can you expect from the class? What is involved in the workout? Is a dance background necessary? It is normal for beginners to have questions about Zumba, as it's a relatively new type of workout. However, once your basic questions are answered, you'll find youself loving every minute of this hip-shaking new way to get fit.

What is Zumba?

It is a Latin infused dance workout that is heavy on cardio. Each workout is lead by music that ranges from traditional Latin American songs to hip-hop and even some jazz tunes. Zumba classes are 1 hour long. The exciting thing about Zumba is that there is a variety of choreography that is based on each song played. While dancing is required, dance expertise or formal training is not. The purpose of Zumba is to get people moving, get their hearts pumping and get them in shape. It's not for training to be on any judged dancing competition shows.

Who can participate in Zumba?

Everyone! As long as you can move about safely and enjoy a good workout, then this is for you. Women, men, and children can enjoy the workout that Zumba provides. Zumba can be varied to fit a variety of different fitness levels. Some classes will be more upbeat and athletic like the ones we teach at Bootique Fitness, while other classes will be

Zumba 101

Just as you would expect with any other demanding physical activity, you want to have water or a diluted sports drink handy to re-hydrate during your Zumba workout. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes with good support and clothes you would be comfortable dancing in. Also, the longer you dance, the higher the temperature of the room will get so, if necessary, dress in layers to maintain your comfort level. It is a good idea to bring a towel since you will work up a sweat!

Bootique Fitness offers a great Zumba class every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm and Sundays at 10:00 am in Old Town San Diego at 2971 India St. With the great routines and choreography, these Zumba classes fill up fast. In order to take advantage and reserve your spot, RSVP for a Zumba class.

Put some spice in your workout

Plan to try a Zumba class this week. Your first Zumba class with Bootique is only $5. Or, schedule a private Zumba party for your next 'ladies night' or birthday celebration. Get details about private Zumba parties. It's a guaranteed good time!

zumba girl1 Zumba in San Diego New Class Added on Sundays

We're excited to open another Zumba class. We've had many positive reviews of our Tuesday, Thursday Zumba classes and numerous requests to add another class weekly. Starting this Sunday, October 16th, we'll be doing Zumba 3 days a week. That's 3 chances to join the fitness party, shake your groove thang, and burn up to 800 calories in an hour.

Jaylin leads the Zumba party 3 times a week

With fun, new music and crazy, contagious energy, Jaylin will make you feel like you are queen of the night - even at 10:00 am on a Sunday morning.

What are people saying about Bootique Fitness Zumba classes?

"Can't recommend it enough. Seriously. I've been to other Zumba classes in the past and they're kind of fun, but definitely not a workout. Jaylin's Zumba classes are fun and you keep moving and sweating the whole time... replaces your workout for that day... a total workout. You won't be disappointed!" - Lisa M

"I love Zumba. I've tried it at a few different places throught out the city. So far Bootique, has the best and most authentic Zumba classes I have ever had." - Allison S

"I love this class! It's super fun and a fabulous workout. For anyone who has danced or never danced, it's a great way to do some cardio, have fun and let loose after a long day at work! I recommend it. You'll be surprised by the intensity and how great you feel afterwards." - Michaela C Read the rest of this entry

Is Zumba Just A Fad Exercise?

Monday, October 10th, 2011

zumba san diego Is Zumba Just A Fad Exercise?

Exercise trends come and go. Need proof? Anyone remember Jazzercise and Tae-Bo? Both programs were the hot trends in exercise in the past. Both programs still exist (seriously, there are still places that offer Jazzercise), but both have fallen out of favor with the fitness crowd. It stands to reason that Zumba may be the next exercise trend that is here today and gone tomorrow. However, while other programs have waxed and waned, I predict Zumba has more staying power beyond the typical "next big thing" in exercise.

Zumba has staying power

First, the atmosphere for Zumba is all about fun. If you love to dance but don't want the hassle of getting dressed up, driving downtown and paying a cover charge then this is the workout for you. In Zumba, participants can jam to Latin-inspired music and learn the basics of Latin-inspired dance. Professional dance experience is definitely not required. All skill levels can join in the fun and everyone has a good time.
